How can you tell groms to not give up, if you have already given up?
3 Marschant… Jun 12, 2007 @ 11:50
Ok so I haven't got my finger on Mossel Bay's pulse but please explain how he's already given up... When we spoke to him he seemed like a positive guy.

If you've ever seen him surf then you'd know he rips - the photos just don't do him any justice.

Based on all the OverXposed's we've published it seems the most common advice experienced surfers give to grommets is to not give up... what advice would you give?
4 ...?...… Jun 15, 2007 @ 14:37
Lets put it this way,he used to be very positive about surfing and you couldn't get him out of the water! He surfed until after dark every day!Now he surfs like once in every blue moon!He should make more time for his surfing and get his priorties straight! He has given up in the sense that he was really good and could've possibly made the QS,but because he does,nt surf that often anymore that dream of him can never come true!
He rips when he is in the water there's no doubt about that...I remember him and Jo Krone always surfed against Shaun Joubert, and Shaunie could never win Johann and then when Johann kinda lost interest in surfing...he started to lose against Shaunie!
So I just think he must get his priorities straight again! It's not to late,he can still make it.***Peace

Thanks for the update. We're sorry to hear things are looking down for him. Sometimes reality has a way of cancelling out your drive to surf. I also remember years ago when Jo Krone and Shaun were still young.

Joseph really stood out in the crowd and if anyone deserves to be on the QS then it would be him. I still follow Shaun's results quite closely and always root for him in a heat.

Strange the way different surfers choose different paths - some take surfing to the competitive extreme while others prefer to follow their heart and love of the sport and stick to freesurfing.

Johan if you ever read this - keep your head up and keep on surfing - it helps you make it through the tough times.

Thanx Marschant, you're a legend. who ever that other guy is whos dissing me, just get your facts right then you can say whatever you want about me.

This is my story... I havn't lost interest or given up and my priorities are as straight as they can be. I was very lucky and got a realy cool job that payed pretty well so I've been working for the past 10 months trying to save some money and get my equipment up to date and put some money aside to travel and survive.

I worked 12 hours a day so I couldn't surf all day but I was in the water every night. alone 90% of the time.Ii finished work 2 weeks ago and had a eye operation. I could surf again since monday and I've had 3 to 4 surfs every day since. I havn't slacked or lacked or lost any interests and its got nothing to do with priorities. Its just life. No work no toys - no toys no play. (ant)

But now I'm back and more hungry than ever and thanx to our mystery man ive got something to prove. So thanx alot and shot Marschant. c u soon
