Fathers don’t get out that often, so when they do they try to get some mellow, uncrowded waves.
It mustn’t break too far from shore, be too rocky, too big or too pap. There has to be a little bit of travelling. Good food is critical! Some off-road action to get the pulse up and a little bit of discovery goes a long way too.
My friend Azad and I had been looking at pics we found of a spot that breaks on a north westerly wind, on the west coast, for some time now and when the wives decided to sleep over we knew it was on.
Early morning pick up and Rasool is out ‘cos the maid left him in the donks (the honourable paternal duty beckons). Well what do you know... North West wind, 6ft WSW swell. Surely this is the blessings for being such obedient husbands (and lovers)… stoked.
To make a long story short we got the perfect waves, got the perfect pics, already have the perfect women, the perfect little naughty kids and to top it off Azad’s wife makes us a movie type poster of all our shots. We scored all round. It’s good when the surfing works with all the other elements that are so important in our lives.
Sitting at my pc at work when it gets hectic, I look at my poster of Bokpunt which sits next to my picture of the family and I am happy, truly happy. Life is good!
